Beware of KB9LNA

Post by KC9EKE »

Look out for KB9LNA Rodney D. Smith. someone bootleded this call. KB9LNA has been a Silent Key for over 5 years. Local hams that new him told me that they went to his funural. Look out for this E-Mail address kb9lna@yahoo.com. This guy is not who he realy is. He tried to scam me. I found out from local hams that Rodney D. Smith has been dead for several years. Whoever renewed his call did it to scam people and to get on HF.

KB9LNA renewed his Tech Plus license last year...

Post by K4ICL »

This is in error. KB9LNA renewed his Tech Plus license last year and is current in the FCC data base.

This is interesting. He did renew his general class license in September 2005.

Someone who has the name (Rodney D Smith), lived in the same zip code (47591) and who has the same birth year (1945) as KB9LNA died on 16 December 2000.

Also the email address for him on QRZ.com says SK and W9TWJ's website has a SK after KB9LNA's callsign.

RE KB9LNA

Post by byrond »

Hello there fellow amature radio operators

Rodney Smith is indeed a sk . He and I were friends for a long number of years
so if there are any postings from him or you here the call KB9LNA on the airwaves rest assured that it is a bootlegged call

The local club has never figured out how his call sign got renewed but it did and the fcc has the information

Rotton ham?

Hmmm.

After reading the web page given below, there might not be any mystery on how the callsign got "reinstated". Read it carefully...

The local hams need to pursue this....
I am suspect of anyone who cannot spell "amateur" correctly. It is not amatuer.

I'm still confused over the validity of the call KB9LNA. But what freaks me out that this individual that has this page out there:

http://www.freehomepages.com/rodrico/uls.htm

can steal the identity of any ham that pays him a dollar. Not only that, but he could then renew the ticket and sell the call to his cb buddies. It seems to me that ripoffs on QTH have taken off lately since many ads list "none" as a call. I understand folks selling scanners and shortwave receivers and such, but if you see a FT1000D or a AL1500 and the call listed is "none" folks should beware. IMO the ads should not even be listed. Someone must be buying the "none" rigs, perhaps other folks with a "none" call? I see more complaints in feedback that do not mention calls either. I know many people advise not to buy equipment from someone with out a call, but the ads are increasing. Just my 1.49

It is worth repeating...

Folks, to significantly reduce everyday hassles in your life:

NEVER deal with a person who is not a licensed ham in his country of residence.
NEVER do business with a person you have not thoroughly researched, even if he is licensed.
NEVER send equipment if it in not completely paid for by the buyer unless your are the OFFER-ER in a Trade Deal.
NEVER work a trade deal with any person you have not thoroughly researched.

Positive results guaranteed!

KB9LNC

KB9LNC has clearly identified himself and is the one who has informed
us Rodney Smith has truly passed away and now an SK.
Why were directions given to his house?

Sorry about that folks, never thought of byrond as a callsign. Then I saw where he put his call in the post. Thanks for pointing it out KS4ED.
